In the rapidly evolving eCommerce industry, customer expectations are constantly changing. If your eCommerce platform can’t adapt quickly, you’ll risk losing customers to your competitors. And that can be expensive – in fact, research has shown that improving customer retention rates by just 5 percent can increase profits by 25 percent. Offering customers the modern, seamless user experience they expect, has become more important than ever. That's the reason why many brands and retailers have to rethink their technical setup and even consider replatforming to a new commerce platform.
Is It Time to Think About Replatforming?
Replatforming is not something you should approach lightly. However, if your current eCommerce platform is restricting your business’ growth, then it’s time to look for alternatives. Are any of the following points true for your business?
You have a monolithic shop system that makes it hard to keep up with changing customer expectations and want a system that makes it easy to adapt the customer experience and front end.
Your company has recently changed directions or strategies. For example, you want to increase your focus on omnichannel, expand to international markets, or add B2B sales into the mix.
You've lost market shares and need to innovate quickly with flexibly adding new channels and tailored shops as needed.
You’re spending more resources and time on technical hygiene factors than actually moving your brand forward and creating maximum results.
If you’ve answered yes to any of the questions above, you may find that SCAYLE may offer you the flexibility you need to take the next step in your growth strategy.
What Steps Are Required For a Successful Platform Migration to SCAYLE?
If you decide to switch to SCAYLE, we’ll work closely with you every step of the way to ensure the best possible results.
#1 Assessment, Scoping & Target Architecture
Using the information we’ve gathered in the assessment, we then create a detailed solution architecture for the system that we want to design and build together. No two SCAYLE setups are exactly alike, so there’s not any one blueprint that will work for every customer. Once the assessment is done, we define work packages – different areas or domains that will be addressed as the system is set up.
#2 Data Migration in Three Steps
All data you still need, e.g., product and customer data, as well as information on orders, returns, warehouse handling, or pricing needs to be tidied up and exported. Afterward, we’ll map the data onto the new structure before it’s being imported.
#3 Building the Front End & Checkout
Our headless architecture allows you to have total control over your front end. You can choose to custom-build a front end, use a SaaS provider, or use SCAYLE’s white-label front end. We also provide a white-label checkout front end that you can use to build your customized user interface. It includes a powerful rule engine that lets you create checkout rules for specific customer or product groups. For example, if you want to offer free shipping for VIP customers, or if certain products have shipping restrictions, you can add these here.
#4 Planning For Go-Live
Before making the leap and going live with SCAYLE, we create a customized playbook that defines the individual steps for the rollout. It is tailored to your rollout strategy and also defines situations where a rollback would be considered.
Before making the switch, we provide comprehensive training to all stakeholders. Each member of your team will know how to perform their job in the new system, and our online Resource Center is available to answer any questions that might come up in the future.
#5 Final Migration
Over the course of the migration, we perform ongoing tests to ensure that everything is going as planned. Before the final migration, we also carry out end-to-end tests that include all external partner software and interfaces.
Replatforming: Working With the SCAYLE Commerce Engine
While many eCommerce systems are based on monolithic systems with some modular features, SCAYLE is built from the ground up to be composable. Our API-first, composable setup makes the system genuinely flexible and agile, while our headless design gives you complete control over your front end. That means you’ll be able to adapt to whatever eCommerce trends the future may bring.
By combining high-quality out-of-the-box functions with custom solutions, it’s possible to migrate even complex eCommerce systems smoothly. Furthermore, we offer a number of unique services that can help your business expand internationally, including help with operations and marketing. And if your website experiences sudden traffic peaks, our highly scalable cloud architecture still ensures a great user experience.
Different Migration Approaches and Possible Levels Of SCAYLE’s Involvement
When it's time to migrate your eCommerce setup from your old provider to SCAYLE, there are three basic approaches you can choose:
- Your team builds the interfaces and configures SCAYLE on its own.
- We build the components you need, e.g., interfaces, add-ons, or front ends.
- Our partners build the components you need, and we serve an advisory role, if needed.
Migrating to SCAYLE Commerce Engine
Replatforming is a major undertaking, and it's a decision that needs to be made carefully. But if you find that you need to innovate quicker or need a stronger, more reliant performance than your current system allows, switching to SCAYLE could be the perfect solution.
